Next morning.

I'm sitting next to a young woman on the bus to Hyderabad.

She smiles and points to the book I'm reading. 'That's my grandfather's translation.'

I stare at her in disbelief. 'You mean Shaikh Ayaz is your grandfather?'

She nods, her smile deepening. 'Yes. He was my nana.'

I'm mostly a rational person. But the frequency of serendipitous events happening in the last couple of days is getting to be too frequent to appear as purely unplanned, random coincidences. I'm sitting on a bus heading to Hyderabad against my better rational judgement. On the bus I'm reading the Urdu translation of the poetry of Sind's most revered Sufi saint and poet, Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai, and my co-passenger turns out to be the granddaughter of the translator, the man who rendered Bhitai's Risalo into rhymed Urdu verse?

I started to tell Shaikh Ayaz's granddaughter, a college student in Karachi, returning to her home in Hyderabad for the weekend, about my book on Muslim women.

She offers: 'Come to my house. You can meet my mother. Shaikh Ayaz's daughter!'
